Chaos as Bayelsa woman stabs JSS1 student to death over feud with grandmother

A mild drama occurred in Bayelsa State on Tuesday after a mob descended on a woman, Arugu Benedicta, for killing a Junior Secondary School 1 of Government Science and Technical College identified as Joseph Thomas.

Reports said that the woman went berserk and stabbed the 14-year-old boy student to death over a quarrel with his grandmother.

Benedicta allegedly stabbed Thomas on the upper part of his shoulder and chest, which led to his untimely death.

The PUNCH reported that the tragic incident took place in the Okaka area of the state capital, Yenagoa.

Residents disclosed that the late Thomas was an easy going lad, who was fondly called ‘Daddy’s Boy.’

They further said the deceased was said to be preparing for school before the unfortunate incident occurred.

The killing of the young man was said to have caused pandemonium a mob pounced on the woman identified as before a team of policemen arrived at the scene and rescued her.

According to sources, the victim’s grandmother and his assailant had been allegedly embroiled in a lingering feud before Tuesday’s incident.

“She held a knife in her hand and went to the residence of the boy shouting and this made the boy to come out, and she stabbed him several times on his shoulder and chest,” reports quoted a neighbour as saying.

The spokesperson for the state Police Command, Asinim Butswat, confirmed the incident.
