Celebrities, Twitter users, condemn brutal assault of SA singer Babes Wodumo by boyfriend on Instagram Live
South African celebrities, human rights advocates and Twitter users have reacted angrily to the viral video of singer Babes Wodumo being assaulted by her music star boyfriend, Mandla Maphumulo.
Many condemned the act saying Babes Wodumo, 24, had suffered consistent physical assaults from Maphumulo better known as Mampintsha.
In the viral video, Babes Wodumo goes live on her Instagram account, then moves away to ask Mampintsha some questions. Just after a minute, Mampintsha appears in the video viciously hitting Babes while raising his voice at her.

Using the hashtag #StopWomenAbuse, Twitter users lamented the high rate of abusive relationships saying women should be protected and not subjected to intimidation.
However, some said sympathizing with Babes Wodumo won’t help because she had always known that her boyfriend is abusive but decided to remain in the relationship instead of reporting him to the police.
Many also rallied around the singer while calling for Manpintsha’s arrest and prosecution.
Cassper Nyovest, DJ Zhinle, Boity, Amanda Black and SA Minister for Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa, Nigerian singer, Davido are among those who have condemned the action.
Mr Maphumulo has not commented on the video but in relation to similar accusations last year, he denied being an “abuser”, reports Times Live.
Babes Wodumo appeared in Black Panther: The Album on a song called “Redemption”. She was nominated for the 2017 BET Award for Best International Act: Africa.

2. @GovernmentZA will never tolerate gender-based violence. It is informed by a twisted logic of patriarchal power relations in society. We call on all South Africans to isolate the perpetrators & to fight & defeat gender-based violence with the same zeal as when we fought racism pic.twitter.com/EXIE61sajg

Take this #BabesWodumo issue for instance; the process is that the victim should get up, wipe themselves off or bandage their wounds and go to the nearest police station and make a head-strong statement?

That damn video was #babeswodumo crying out for help and it should prompt authorities to act. What if she doesn’t make it out alive to get to a police station to open an actual case as required by law??? Our justice system is failing women
