Carabao Cup: Klopp criticizes Anfield atmosphere against West Ham

Jurgen Klopp has voiced his displeasure over the atmosphere at Anfield during Liverpool’s recent 5-1 Carabao Cup quarter-final win against West Ham.

This critique follows Gary Neville’s earlier comments, where he labeled the atmosphere during the Liverpool-Manchester United game as the worst he had ever seen at Anfield.

Despite the expanded capacity due to the Anfield Road Stand expansion, Klopp urged Liverpool supporters to create a more vibrant atmosphere, particularly for the upcoming clash against Premier League leaders Arsenal on Saturday.

The Liverpool manager’s comments come despite the impressive turnout for the recent Liverpool-United game, where 57,158 fans attended, marking the highest attendance at Anfield since 1963.

For the Carabao Cup quarter-final against West Ham, the attendance was even higher, with 57,332 spectators present to witness Liverpool’s progression to the semi-finals.

Klopp expressed his discontent with the atmosphere during the West Ham game, particularly in the first half when Liverpool dominated. He noted that, despite the team’s exceptional performance, he was not entirely happy with the energy from the stands.

I have to say – it’s long ago that I said this – but I thought the first half a little bit, when the boys played really exceptional, I was not overly happy, I have to say, with the atmosphere behind me,” said Klopp.

I don’t know. I don’t ask people, what do we want? We changed a lot of things. We dominated West Ham like crazy. We missed chances. And I mean, if I would be in the stand I would be on my toes, 1,000 per cent.

“I don’t know if the Man United game was that bad that we have to say, ‘oh sorry that we didn’t smash them,” he said.
