Canadian knife-wielding suspect shot dead by police after stabbing incident

Police in Vancouver, Canada, have confirmed the fatal shooting of a knife-wielding suspect following an attack that left two people injured.

The incident occurred on Wednesday morning when officers responded to reports of a man stealing alcohol and brandishing a knife in a restaurant near the city’s central library.

According to a statement from Vancouver Police, the suspect fled the restaurant and was found inside a nearby convenience store. Officers confronted him, and after a tense standoff, the suspect was shot.

He was taken into custody and transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The two stabbing victims, whose injuries are not considered life-threatening, were also hospitalized for treatment.

Authorities have yet to release the identity of the deceased suspect.

Witnesses captured videos of the incident, with one reportedly showing officers firing over the counter of the convenience store while shouting commands, and another showing first responders performing chest compressions on the suspect.

The Vancouver Police Department confirmed that the case is under investigation, as officers seek to determine the sequence of events leading to the shooting.

This incident has sparked discussions about the use of force by police in such situations. Investigators are expected to review the videos and witness accounts to establish whether the officers followed appropriate protocols.
