Cambodia denies ordering NIgerians, other Africans to leave

Cambodia has dismissed reports claiming it ordered all African nationals living in the country to leave by May 31, 2026, describing the circulating notice as fake and misleading.

“It is fake news fabricated to distort the situation and mislead domestic and international audiences,” Ministry of Interior Spokesperson Touch Sokhak told Xinhua news agency on Friday.

According to authorities, the viral message being shared online did not come from any official government source. The Ministry of Interior clarified that no policy has been introduced targeting Africans or any foreign group for removal from the country.

The rejection came a day after foreign media outlets quoted a fake “official notice” purportedly showing that the General Department of Immigration under Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior had ordered all African nationals to leave by the end of May.

Officials further stressed that the country remains open to foreigners for business, tourism and work, provided they comply with immigration regulations.

The government warned that such false reports are capable of causing unnecessary panic and distorting the country’s image. Cambodian authorities have firmly denied issuing any mass exit order, insisting the report is completely untrue.
