The Confédération Africaine de Football has condemned what it called “unacceptable behaviour” by some players and officials during the Africa Cup of Nations final between Morocco and Senegal in Rabat on Sunday.

In a statement on Monday, CAF said it “ condemns the unacceptable behaviour of some players and officials during the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 Final between Morocco and Senegal in Rabat last night.

CAF strongly condemns any inappropriate behaviour which occurs during matches, especially those targeting the refereeing team or match organizers.”

The continental body disclosed it is reviewing all available footage and will refer the matter to disciplinary bodies. “CAF is reviewing all footage and will refer the matter to competent bodies for appropriate action to be taken against those found guilty,” the statement added.

The final was marred by chaotic scenes when Senegalese players temporarily walked off the pitch in protest against a controversial late penalty awarded against them in stoppage time. Angry fans also threw objects and attempted to enter the field at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.

Captain Sadio Mane pleaded with his teammates to return. Moroccan forward Brahim Diaz took the penalty but his attempted chip was saved by goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, sending the match into extra time. Senegal eventually won 1–0 with an extra-time goal by Pape Gueye, securing their second AFCON title.

The fallout drew international reaction, with FIFA President Gianni Infantino describing the scenes as “ugly” and stating that “violence cannot be tolerated in our sport.” He congratulated Senegal but urged CAF’s disciplinary bodies to take action.

Morocco’s head coach, Walid Regragui, also criticised the incidents, calling them “shameful” and saying they did not “honour Africa.”

CAF’s investigation follows earlier tensions in the tournament, including Senegal’s complaints over logistics and allegations of biased officiating in Morocco’s semi-final against Nigeria.
