The Anambra State Police Command has assured residents of their safety as by-elections hold today in the state.
The elections are taking place in the Anambra South Senatorial District to elect a senator and in Onitsha North 1 constituency for the state House of Assembly.
Police spokesman Tochukwu Ikenga said in a statement on Saturday that the command has deployed more personnel and operational assets to secure identified flashpoints and sensitive areas.
“As part of the build-up to the forthcoming by-election in the state, massive deployment of personnel and operational assets is currently ongoing across identified flashpoints and other sensitive areas to ensure adequate security coverage before, during, and after the election,” Ikenga said.
He explained that the reinforcement was meant to boost security structures already on ground and ensure the polls are peaceful and credible.
The Supervisory Officer for the exercise, Assistant Inspector General of Police Godwin Eze, also assured voters of their safety.
“He further urged Ndi Anambra to remain law-abiding, cooperate with security personnel, and to freely exercise their civic responsibility without fear or intimidation,” Ikenga added.
The police command stressed that it would remain neutral, professional, and committed to protecting lives and property during the election.
