The Burkina Faso Football Federation has sacked head coach Brama Traore and his entire technical staff following the team’s elimination from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The decision was announced on Wednesday by federation leader Oumarou Sawadogo, who cited “results well below what was expected” at the tournament.
Sawadogo expressed “bitter disappointment,” noting the objective was to reach at least the semi-finals.
The Stallions were knocked out in the round of 16 in Marrakesh on Monday, suffering a 3-0 defeat to defending champions and regional rivals, Ivory Coast. Goals from Manchester United’s Amad Diallo, Yan Diomande, and Bazoumana Toure sealed their fate.
Under Traore, who took over in March 2024, Burkina Faso had beaten Sudan and Equatorial Guinea in the group stage but also lost to Algeria before the decisive loss to Ivory Coast.
The 63-year-old’s dismissal follows the team’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking a period of underachievement for the national side.
