Senator Mohammed Musa, the lawmaker representing Niger East Senatorial District-(APC), has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to beam his searchlight on the insecurity in three local government areas of Niger.
Musa, who made the call in a statement in Abuja, on Monday, also urged Niger state governor and all security chiefs to come to the aid of the people.
He said the call became imperative due to the recent attack by bandits in Shiroro, Rafi and Munya Local Government Areas of the state.
He alleged that the incessant attacks had claimed many lives and rendered many homeless since Jan.14 with the most recent killing of two persons, including a village head and more than 30 people abducted.
He said:“I am appealing to President Muhammadu Buhari, the Niger state governor and all service chiefs in the country to provide a lasting solution to the menace and to come to the aid of my people.
“ I have been making this kind of passionate appeal and I pray that his Excellency would hear my appeal this time and use his powers in this regard.
“I have no doubt that the Federal Government has the capacity to tackle the problem once and for all, considering the efforts of Mr President at tackling the insurgency in the north-east since his assumption of office.’’
Musa also called on Niger Gov. Alhaji Abubakar Bello to intensify efforts at handling the situation by deploying the necessary machinery of his government to arrest the menace once and for all.
He commended the resilient effort of the security agencies in the state, urging them to redouble their efforts by ensuring that the perpetrators of these heinous and dastardly acts were not only flushed out but arrested and adequately prosecuted.
Musa called on the military and the police to deploy more personnel to the area and also establish more joint operations to Rafi, Munya and Shiroro Local Government Areas being attacked by bandits.
He assured his constituents of his unwavering determination to ameliorate their sufferings, particularly by ensuring that the current security challenges in their communities were brought to an end.
He, however, urged them to cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that will help their operations.
The senator also urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide assistance to the affected persons who are currently taking shelter in temporary camps provided by the state government.
