Publisher and political activist, Omoyele Sowore, has delivered a scathing critique of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, declaring that former President Muhammadu Buhari “killed” Nigeria during his tenure, and Tinubu is now “burying” what remains of the country.
Speaking ahead of the second anniversary of President Tinubu’s assumption of office on May 29, Sowore said the damage done by both leaders is profound and irreversible.
He described Tinubu’s presidency as a continuation of national decline that began under Buhari.
“My position on this government is not a thought—it’s a clear stance I’ve held long before the 2023 elections.
Nigerians made a grave mistake voting Bola Tinubu into office,” he said.
Sowore went further to suggest that by the time Tinubu completes his term, many Nigerians might find themselves longing for the Buhari years.
“He (Tinubu) has done irreparable damage—economically, socially, politically. He has crippled institutions, education, and democracy. Buhari killed Nigeria in eight years; Tinubu came, and in two years he is burying it,” he declared.
The activist also questioned the state of Nigeria’s democracy, pointing to current events and internal political party crises as evidence that democratic governance may be fading.
He said most Nigerians are now unsure whether the country still functions as a democracy, given the state of governance and the diminishing space for public accountability.
