The League of Northern Democrats has expressed sorrow over the reported death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a committed patriot who served Nigeria with dedication.

In a statement, the group said it received news of Buhari’s passing in a London hospital with “profound sadness,” noting that his death marked a significant loss to the nation.

The LND acknowledged Buhari’s extensive service to the country, both in military uniform as Head of State and later as a civilian President.

The statement, signed by the group’s national publicity secretary, Dr. Ladan Salihu, noted:
“History will remember him as a leader whose legacy will be subjected to scrutiny and interpretations.
Whatever the interpretations, we are all united in the belief that President Muhammadu Buhari was a patriot. He was a soldier who put his life on the line during the civil war to help keep Nigeria one. He served his country to the best of his ability and with the best of intentions.”

The League extended its condolences to Buhari’s family, the government and people of Katsina State, and the entire country. It also conveyed sympathy to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, referring to Buhari as Tinubu’s “predecessor, his friend and political ally.”

“LND wishes to convey our deepest condolences to the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the loss of his predecessor, his friend and political ally. May Allah SWTA forgive Muhammadu Buhari and grant him Aljannatul Firdaws,” the statement added.
