Buhari extends lead as Situation Room claims death toll from election violence rises to 47

President Muhammadu Buhari has widened the gap between him and his main rival, the candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party [PDP], Atiku Abubakar, as more election results trickled in on Tuesday.

Nigeria held her presidential and national assembly elections on 23 February 2019. The results from the nationwide polls are being collated by the Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC] in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

Based on a third of the official results announced so far by the election umpire and provisional results announced in state capitals, WuzupNaija can authoritatively reveal that President Buhari is on course to cementing victory in the election.

The PDP has rejected the results, saying the tallies are “incorrect and unacceptable”.

Meanwhile, the Situation Room has said that the death toll from election-based violence has risen to 47.

According to Reuters, the Situation Room, a monitoring mission comprises over 70 civic groups.
