Popular Nigerian skit maker and actor Samuel Perry, better known as Broda Shaggi, has broken his months-long silence, thanking fans for standing by him during his prolonged absence from the entertainment scene .
In an emotional message shared through his WhatsApp channel on Friday, the comedian, who has largely stayed away from social media, public appearances and comedy shows in recent months, expressed deep appreciation to supporters who continued to check on him despite his silence.
“To everyone who’s still here… waiting, checking in, showing love, and holding me down even through the silence, thank you. I don’t think y’all truly understand how much that means to me,” he wrote .
The 33-year-old entertainer, who was born in Ikenne and hails from Sagamu, Ogun State, graduated in Creative Arts from the University of Lagos and has become a two-time AMVCA winner for Best Actor in a Comedy .
Shaggi, however, did not reveal what led to his withdrawal from the public, saying he was not yet ready to disclose everything he had experienced.
“I wish I could tell y’all everything right now… but I can’t. Not yet,” he stated .
He assured his fans that he had not forgotten them and hoped to return to the entertainment scene soon.
“Just know I haven’t forgotten about you, and I haven’t stopped thinking about the day I can finally come back and really be ME with y’all again. I’m hoping that day comes soon,” he added .
The comedian further promised to return with renewed energy after his long absence.
“And when it does, I promise I’m coming back better, stronger, and ready to make up for all this lost time,” he said .
Shaggi’s message comes five months after reports of an alleged shooting incident involving him while filming a comedy skit around the Sango-Ota area of Ogun State.
According to earlier reports, the skit maker was reportedly injured in March while filming under the Sango-Ota bridge . He was said to have sustained an injury to his leg and was initially rushed to Blooming Care Hospital in the Alakuko area of Lagos before being transferred to another facility in Ikeja .
The Ogun State Police Command had commenced an investigation into the reports but said it could not confirm that the incident happened within the state.
“For clarity, the command cannot confirm that such an incident occurred anywhere within its jurisdiction. Additionally, no such incident has been reported at any police formation across the state,” the command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said at the time .
The Lagos State Police Command also confirmed that detectives were alerted by a hospital about a gunshot victim receiving treatment and later identified the victim as Shaggi . According to the command, the comedian had an injury to his thigh, although the reported location of the incident, Sango-Ota, was outside Lagos State’s jurisdiction .
Since then, Shaggi has maintained a low public profile, prompting concerns among fans about his wellbeing and whereabouts. Neither the comedian nor his management ever provided a detailed public account of what happened, and social media reports surrounding the incident were later questioned online .
His latest message did not provide details about his experience but offered reassurance that he hopes to return to the public soon.
Known for his energetic comedy character, signature catchphrase “Oya hit me,” and appearances in films such as Chief Daddy 2 and Day of Destiny, Shaggi rose to prominence through social media skits and has built a significant following in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
For now, his fans are left waiting for the full story he promised to share, and perhaps, his return to the comedy scene.
