Popular media personality and founder of Agidigbo FM, Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, has officially declared his intention to run for governor of Oyo State in the 2027 election under the Accord Party.

He made the declaration publicly on Saturday, stating, “I am publicly declaring today that in 2027, I will not campaign for anyone or mobilise crowds for anyone. I will contest in the gubernatorial election under the Accord Party.”

The announcement, made at an event in Ibadan, signals his shift from supporting other candidates to pursuing his own political ambition. He expressed that he never imagined joining partisan politics but felt compelled by a need to serve beyond the media.

“I have never imagined that I will join a political party, let alone contest in one,” Hamzat stated, adding that his decision was driven by a passion for public service and good governance.

The Oyo State Chairman of the Accord Party, Prince Tolani Ojo, described Hamzat as “a man of the people” and expressed confidence in his leadership capacity. Hamzat was formally presented as a member and the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

The event also saw the reception of other defectors into the party by the Accord Party Chairman, Barrister Maxwell Mgbudem.

Dignitaries present included Hon. Dr. Biyi Odunlade, representing Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, and the National Secretary of the Accord Party, Hon. Adebukola Abiola Ajaja.
