Police IG suspends Abba Kyari, sets up panel to investigate allegation
The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, on Saturday night recommended the suspension of embattled Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, who was indicted by the United States authorities over his alleged romance with a notorious fraudster, Ramon Olorunwa Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi.
Alkali Baba’s directive was contained in a July 31 letter issued to the Police Service Commission.
The development was further confirmed by Force Police Public Relation Officer, Frank Mba, on Sunday morning.
Mba said, “The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, has recommended the immediate suspension of DCP Abba Kyari, the Head of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT), from the Service of the Nigeria Police Force, pending the outcome of an ongoing internal investigation touching on him,”
The spokesman further said the suspension is also expected to create an enabling environment for the NPF Special Investigation Panel to carry out its internal investigations.
