Two men have been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly taking part in the murder and burning of a young woman in the Gangare area behind Mile 12 Market.
The incident happened on Saturday, May 24, 2025, and was described as a planned attack. Police say the main suspect is the woman’s former boyfriend, who is still on the run.
The Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said in a statement on Monday that the victim was from Nasarawa State and had been living with relatives from the North in the area. Her occupation is not yet known.
“There was no case of blasphemy, as wrongly claimed by some people,” Hundeyin said.
He added, “The long-standing issue between her and her ex-boyfriend, who had tried to force her to return to the relationship, led to the attack. The boyfriend and his accomplices planned and carried it out. Two suspects are now in custody.”
According to him, the case is being handled by the State Criminal Investigation Department, and efforts are ongoing to find and arrest the other suspects.
Hundeyin also said the police have brought the situation under control in the affected area.
“Residents should go about their activities peacefully. The police are working hard to catch all those involved, and the findings of the investigation will be shared with the public.
“We ask the public to stay calm and avoid spreading unverified stories that may cause panic,” he added.
The police said they remain committed to protecting lives and property in Lagos.
