The Federal Road Safety Corps has confirmed that two people died and 15 others were injured in a lone accident involving a Toyota Hiace bus at Saapade on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The FRSC spokesperson in Ogun State, Florence Okpe, revealed on Thursday in Abeokuta that the crash occurred at 4:34 p.m.

Okpe explained, “The accident was caused by a tyre burst, which led to the driver losing control. The bus somersaulted and crashed.”

According to her, 18 people were in the bus with registration number LSR 585 YH. The passengers included nine men, five women, two boys, and two girls.

She stated, “Sadly, two people died in the accident — one man and one woman. Fifteen others were injured, comprising eight men, four women, two boys, and one girl.”

The injured were rushed to PATMAG Hospital, Ogere, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the State General Hospital morgue, Isara.

The Ogun State FRSC Sector Commander, Akinwunmi Fasakin, advised drivers to check their vehicles regularly, especially during periods of heavy traffic.

“Motorists must ensure their vehicles are roadworthy to prevent avoidable accidents,” Fasakin cautioned.

The FRSC also reminded road users to drive with care and avoid speeding, particularly during the festive season when road use is at its peak.
