Bovi causes Twitter controversy with his reaction to Busola vs Fatoyinbo court case
Popular Nigerian comedian, Bovi, seems to have incurred the wrath of some social media users over his reaction to the ruling of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja which threw out Busola Dakolo’s rape suit against Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), on Thursday.
The comedian had taken to his Twitter page after the ruling to post a comical tweet about the ruling.
Making reference to Bill Cosby and R Kelly who are presently in US prisons over sexual-related offences, Bovi tweeted:
“Cosby took time. R. Jelly (sic) took time. Is it not penis? It will rise again.”
That didn’t go down well with some female Twitter users who claimed his tweet is implying that another woman would be a victim of sexual assault before the pastor can be arrested and made to face the wrath of the law.
Other social media users, however, took exception to the argument of the ladies, as they argued that the comedian’s tweet is clear enough and meant no harm.

A Twitter user wrote:
How is it that people can’t see the harm in Bovi’s tweet? Women are not collateral damage. His penis rising again means more women will be harmed and that’s unacceptable.

@Jessicafortunes tweeted:
I totally understand what #Bovi meant with this tweet but I am concerned that another girl would have to go down the same road before he is found guilty. That makes me sad! https://t.co/w8B2fvvaJA

Henry Okelue tweeted in Bovi’s defence:
The attack on Bovi is misplaced aggression and a problem with comprehension. He is saying Pastor Randy will submit to his rapey mind again and eventually meet his waterloo. A criminal cleared of stealing will be caught when he steals again, and he is most likely to.

I know what Bovi said is meant to be comforting but I think it’s terrible that another woman has to go through the ordeal of sexual abuse just to prove that Biodun Fatoyinbo is guilty of his crimes.

It’s not misunderstanding, I didn’t get their point at first too. But when you look at it, they are saying the truth. It took fresh cases of Cosby and Kelly to get caught and jailed. Sadly, it might take same to get Biodun and that’s why they have an issue with it.

“I’m responsible for what I tweet but how you interpret my tweet is your own personal problem.” – Pete Edochie 1876
That’s the “proverb” that best describes this outrage on Bovi ‘s harmless tweet.

If u fail to convict a serial killer, u have no choice but to wait for them to attempt another murder for u to have another shot at conviction.
Likewise thieves & rapists.
It’s neither insensitive nor tone deaf.
It’s unpalatable but sadly true.Yall need to cut Bovi some slack.

Wether Bovi said it or not, a rapist will most likely not stop after a lawsuit which awarded him damages. The problem here is not Bovi, the problem is the rapist & the justice system. But let’s trade the point for faux outrage. https://t.co/boZTgMzqVf

Its like saying “Everyday for the Thief one day for the Owner”. Nobody wants the Thief to Rob anyone but he most likely will. Bovi doesn’t want anyone raped but it might most likely happen. I also get the outrage from the ladies too https://t.co/pdUeZckPTC

Bovi’s tweet is similar to “99 days for the thief, one day for the owner”
Same thing with “One day monkey go go market and e no go come back.
Buh those who don’t want to understand Bovi’s tweet will be like: pic.twitter.com/ofdW0TcAP2

People will misconstrue what Bovi said so they can find someone to “cancel”. The pesin gan gan wey dey rape go dey where hin dey. Feminist twitter go carry Bovi for head like dandruff. pic.twitter.com/SNN171QqUx

Bovi’s tweet was self explanatory. Fatoyinbo’s already inflated ego will increase now that he was even awarded damages. It’s sad that another woman would have to fall a victim but that’s just the honest truth. He has to slip up for him to be caught and hard evidence to be gotten.
— Brown Sugar??? (@yettyclassy) November 16, 2019
The clear interpretation of Bovi’s tweet is “with time the rapist will get caught as he’ll want to try it again”
But the complication is another woman suffering the same ordeal as those before her.
