Middlesborough have defeated Manchester United from the FA Cup after an 8-7 win on penalties at Old Trafford.

United was handed a penalty in the first half which Cristiano Ronaldo missed surprisingly.

However, Jadon Sancho, made amend for the Portuguese’s blunder by firing United into the lead after 25 minutes.

United were left fuming in the 64th minute when Matt Crooks netted a controversial equaliser.

Duncan Watmore appeared to have handled the ball before assisting Crooks but referee Anthony Taylor ignored the protests and the VAR to rule in favour of the visitors.

Boro forced the game into penalties and the hosts would later rue their multiple missed chances when Anthony Elanga missed his spot-kick in front of the home crowd.

The visitors progressed into the next round with an 8-7 victory at Old Trafford.
