Borno troops kill six ISWAP terrorists, rescue 78 captives

Nigerian Army troops are said to have killed six Islamic State in West Africa Province terrorists and rescued 78 individuals who were held captive in a recent operation in the Gamborun Ngala area of Borno State.

A statement from a prominent security expert in Northern Nigeria, Zagazola Makama on Friday, revealed that the operation was carried out by troops from 7 Division and Sector 1 Operation Hadin Kai.

The operation, conducted in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force at Gime and Muzuri villages on Thursday, November 9, 2023, targeted terrorists naturalized in the area.

Intelligence sources cited by Makama indicated that the troops captured several AK-47 rifles and three dane guns.

Additionally, they successfully rescued 78 individuals, including 30 women and 48 children, from the terrorists’ enclave.

Makama reported an unfortunate incident during the operation, stating, “However, a Hilux Vehicle conveying Civilian Joint Task Force was involved in an Improvised Explosive Device explosion at Gulwa while returning from the operation.”

This resulted in the death of two commanders, with some sustaining injuries.

The recovered weapons, rescued individuals, and the wounded were reportedly evacuated to the troops’ medical facility.
