The Peoples Democratic Party on Monday said the reported killing of about 30 people and the abduction of many women and children in a
raid in Borno State by Boko Haram terrorists on Sunday evening has once more vindicated its call on the President, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) to resign.
The PDP Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Chief Diran Odeyemi, in an interview with our correspondent in Abuja said the increasing
insecurity in many parts of Nigeria is an indication that Buhari can not address insecurity and secure the lives and property of Nigeria.
He also said Buhari has continued to reject good ideas on how to stem insecurity including the call my many Nigerians that the service chiefs should be relieved of their duties while fresh blood with better ideas should be injected.
According to him, PDP is in sync with the Northern Elders Forum that Buhari has failed Nigerians and that they were disappointed by the
Buhari regime in terms of the security of lives and property of Nigerians.
Odeyemi said:
“We have said it repeatedly that Buhari has lost it. This latest sad event of kidnapping and killing is evidence and a wakening call that he should resign. A president that came on the basis of protecting lives and property of citizens, a government that has spent trillions of naira on protecting citizens and yet we still have this kind of killing happening on daily basis, there is no justification for him not to resign.
“He should resign. All civil society organisations and all Nigerians should continue to echo what we have been saying that he should resign. Instead of insecurity to reduce, it is rather increasing under his regime. All the advice given to him to retire service chiefs have proved abortive. That means he is not even competent to handle security, economy and other governance issues.
“PDP is not even talking from the point of opposition. We are echoing the positions of Nigerians as also expressed by the Northern Elders Forum and other Nigerians from South, North, Middle-Belt West and everywhere in Nigeria. That is what we are saying.
“The position of the Northern Elders Forum has vindicated PDP. It shows that the call on Mr President to resign and the vote of no confidence (on Buhari) do not have a party, religious or tribal sentiment but actual demand and the factual situation on the ground.”
