Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has called on Nigerians to begin asking critical questions about the persistent Boko Haram insurgency, warning that the militant group has grown into a dangerous force embedded in the country’s daily reality.

Speaking in Abuja on Friday at the unveiling of a book titled Scars: Nigeria’s Journey and the Boko Haram Conundrum, written by former Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, Obasanjo expressed concern over the enduring threat of terrorism in Nigeria.

“Boko Haram is now virtually becoming part of our life. Should we accept that? If we should not accept it, what should we do?” Obasanjo asked.

“How much do we know? Even from the other side, and from this side, have we been active enough? Have we been proactive enough?

“I think we have to ask ourselves the necessary questions to be able to deal with this thing that is now becoming a monster within our country,” he added.

The former president, who wrote the foreword to the book, emphasised the importance of open dialogue and deeper analysis to effectively confront and dismantle the insurgent threat.

Obasanjo also commended General Irabor for his courage in documenting his insider experience in Nigeria’s fight against terrorism, describing the work as a contribution to national understanding and historical record.

The event was attended by key national figures, including former President Goodluck Jonathan, military service chiefs, former and serving governors, and religious leaders.
