Bobrisky: VeryDarkMan, lawyer appear at NASS for probe

Social media influencer Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, and his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, appeared at the National Assembly on Monday for a probe into allegations of corruption involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Nigerian Correctional Services.

The investigation also centers around claims made by controversial cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, who was convicted of naira abuse earlier this year.

Bobrisky, who accused the EFCC and NCS of demanding bribes to secure his placement in a VIP section of Kirikiri Medium Custodial Centre, was notably absent from the hearing. However, his lawyer, Avwerosuoghene Omuvwie, was present.

When called to speak, *VeryDarkMan* declined, citing Bobrisky’s absence. He said, “Today, I will not say anything because an invitation was given out to me and Bobrisky. But he is not here. I don’t see why I will be here and he is not. So I won’t say anything, but my lawyer will.”

The controversy began after a voice note shared by VeryDarkMan, where Bobrisky alleged that his godfather, with the help of the Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, arranged for him to serve his six-month sentence in a private apartment instead of the prison.

The House of Representatives had resolved on September 26 to investigate the bribery allegations. Patrick Umoh, a member representing Akwa Ibom State, expressed concern over the accusations, highlighting the negative image it casts on Nigeria’s law enforcement. He stated, “We are disturbed about the damning allegations against Nigerian critical law enforcement agencies, the EFCC and the NCS.”

The investigation is ongoing, with both agencies under scrutiny as the committees on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Institutions continue their work.
