Popular Nigerian social media personality and cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, has filed a lawsuit against internet activist VeryDarkMan, seeking N1 billion in damages.

The lawsuit follows VDM’s allegations that Bobrisky bribed officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission with N15 million to drop money laundering charges against him.

VDM shared a voice recording, claiming it was Bobrisky admitting to bribing the EFCC. However, Bobrisky has denied the accusations, stating that the voice recording was not his and was generated using AI technology.

Bobrisky shared a letter from his legal team on social media, demanding that VeryDarkMan publish a written and video apology within 24 hours. The lawsuit seeks N1 billion as compensation for damages caused by the false accusations.

In a related development, the Nigerian House of Representatives has launched an investigation into the bribery allegations. Rep. Patrick Umoh, representing Akwa Ibom State, raised the issue during a recent plenary session, expressing concern about the serious claims against the EFCC and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS).

“The publication alleges that the EFCC dropped money laundering charges against Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, upon the collection of N15 million,” Umoh said. He added, “These allegations damage Nigeria’s image as a corrupt nation, and we must act urgently.”

The Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, has referred the matter to the Committees on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Institutions for further investigation. Both Bobrisky and VeryDarkMan, along with the EFCC chairman, are expected to be invited for questioning.
