Blackout: National grid collapsed due to act of vandalism – FG
The Federal Government has blamed the recent collapse of the national electricity system on acts of vandalism.
WuzupNigeria reported that there was a blackout in many parts of the country after the national grid collapsed at 1830hrs on April 8th, 2022.
This publication noted that the recent collapse was the third in less than a month.
However, in a statement by a presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, quoting the Ministry of Power, the government revealed that the vandals destroyed the transmission tower along Odukpani—Ikot Ekpene.
The ministry added that about 400MW of generation was lost as a result of the vandalism.
The statement read, “The immediate cause of national blackout (system collapse) was an act of vandalism on a transmission tower on the Odukpani—Ikot Ekpene 330kV double circuit transmission line thus resulting in a sudden loss of about 400MW of generation.”
