Abuja residents are set to experience temporary power interruptions this weekend as the Transmission Company of Nigeria undertakes planned maintenance at two key substations in the Federal Capital Territory.
In a statement issued on Saturday by its General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, TCN disclosed that the exercise, aimed at enhancing the efficiency of its facilities, will affect power supply to several communities.
The maintenance is scheduled for Sunday, December 29, 2024, from 9 am to 10 pm.
Areas such as Wuye, EFCC Headquarters, Federal Medical Centre, Coca-Cola, Idu Railway Station, Citec, and Life Camp will be without electricity during this period as work is carried out on a 60MVA power transformer at the Kukwaba 132/33kV Transmission Substation.
Similarly, residents of Gwagwalada and its environs will face a four-hour outage earlier in the weekend as engineers work on another substation.
While TCN apologized for the inconvenience, it emphasized that the maintenance exercise is critical to ensuring uninterrupted power supply in the long term.
“The Transmission Company of Nigeria is committed to delivering reliable power services. This planned maintenance is necessary to optimize the performance of the equipment,” the statement read.
Residents have been urged to make necessary arrangements to mitigate the impact of the outages as TCN works to improve the nation’s power infrastructure.
