For the second time in 2025, the national electricity grid has experienced a disturbance, leaving many Nigerians without power.

The outage occurred on Friday, March 7, at about 2 pm, affecting homes and businesses across the country.

Two electricity distribution companies in Lagos confirmed the incident.

Ikeja Electric announced the development on its official X handle, saying, “Please be informed that we experienced a system outage today 07/03/2025 @ 14:00hrs, affecting supply within our network. Restoration of supply is ongoing in collaboration with our critical stakeholders.”

Similarly, the Eko Electricity Distribution Company explained that the power supply was disrupted due to reduced allocation from the Transmission Company of Nigeria.

EKEDC said, “This is to kindly inform you that the current power situation is a result of reduced power allocation from our TCN partners aimed at maintaining grid stability.

“The situation has resulted in unavoidable load shedding across our network.

“Rest assured that we are taking all necessary steps to address the situation as we work closely with TCN and other partners to resolve the issue speedily and ensure a more stable power supply soonest.”

This marks the second grid disturbance this year, following a similar incident on February 13, which left residents in Lagos, Abuja, and Osun without power for hours.

Reports show that the national grid collapsed 11 times in 2024, raising ongoing concerns about the reliability of the country’s electricity supply.

Nigerians have expressed frustration over the recurring outages, calling on the authorities to find lasting solutions to the grid’s instability.
