Bitcoin Trust: Twitter founder Jack Dorsey appoints three Nigerians
No fewer than three Nigerians have been appointed by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey as members of the board of the Bitcoin trust fund.
The former Twitter CEO made the announcement via his Twitter handle on Wednesday while announcing the board members of ₿trust to his 6M Followers.
Recall that the American tech tycoon and Rap music icon, Jay Z, formed ₿trust, donating 500 bitcoin, which was worth $23.6 million back in February 2021 when he made the announcement.
TechCrunch quoted Dorsey as saying that the fund will be set up as a blind irrevocable trust, adding that the duo won’t be giving any direction to the team.
Following his resignation as Twitter CEO in late November, Dorsey announced an all-Africa four-board member for ₿trust on Wednesday which included a South African.
Abubakar Nur Khalil, Obi Nwosu, Ojoma Ochai, will team up with South African, Carla Kirk-Cohen (all developers) were selected from a pool of 7,000 applicants having worked to promote bitcoin development efforts across Africa.
Announcing the board members, Dorsey tweeted, “I’m so grateful for you all and so inspired.”
Speaking further, he added that “they’ll now work towards defining the operating principles as they think about how to best distribute the 500 bitcoin towards development efforts,” Dorsey tweeted.
