The 71-year-old mother of global superstars Beyoncé and Solange, Tina Knowles, has shared intimate details about her decision to part ways with actor Richard Lawson in her newly released memoir, Matriarch.

Knowles revealed that in July 2023, she came to the realization that her marriage needed to end.

Despite acknowledging Lawson’s admirable qualities, she wrote that the relationship had stopped being beneficial for both of them and that she deserved more out of life.

According to Knowles, she attempted to communicate her concerns to Lawson, but the efforts did not bring about the change she hoped for. She reflected on her desire to feel happy, whole, cherished, loved, and respected, which ultimately led to her decision to move on.

The designer and philanthropist admitted feeling a sense of obligation to serve as an example for others seeking a second chance at love.

However, she ultimately prioritized her own well-being, filing for divorce without harboring any resentment.

She noted that, unlike her 2011 divorce from Mathew Knowles—which left her heartbroken—this time she made her decision with clarity and peace of mind.

In a related development, Knowles’ daughter Beyoncé recently emerged victorious in a long-standing legal battle to trademark her daughter’s name, Blue Ivy.

After 12 years, the Trademark Official Gazette confirmed on December 31 that the singer now has exclusive rights to use the name.

The legal dispute began when wedding planner Veronica Morales opposed the filing, citing her business “Blue Ivy Events,” which had been in operation since 2009.

Earlier, Tina Knowles had publicly celebrated her daughter’s wedding anniversary with Jay-Z by sharing a heartfelt video on Instagram. She described the couple as her “inspiration” when it comes to relationships. Beyoncé and Jay-Z married on April 4, 2008, in a private ceremony attended by close friends and family.
