The Nigerian Education Loan Fund has raised concerns over what it labels as a “fraudulent advertisement” promoting a ‘Federal Study Loan.’

This caution comes in response to advertisements on various news platforms directing individuals to the website www.fedstudyloan-gov.ng, purportedly the application portal for the much-anticipated student loan scheme of the Federal Government.

In a disclaimer issued on Friday, the Media and Public Relations Lead for NELFUND, Nasir Ayitogo, stated, “NELFUND wishes to clarify that it has no association with this website and strongly condemns any attempt to deceive students seeking financial aid.”

Ayitogo emphasized that the official channel for student loan applications through NELFUND will be open to the public in due course, accessible via www.nelf.gov.ng.

He urged individuals encountering the fake website to report it promptly to the authorities.

“NELFUND prioritizes the security and well-being of our students and is dedicated to providing accurate information and resources for financing their education,” Ayitogo asserted.

“We advise all students to exercise caution and verify the legitimacy of any website or service claiming to represent our organization. Meanwhile, we encourage anyone affected by this scam to report it immediately to the relevant authorities,” the statement concluded.

On April 3, President Bola Tinubu signed the Student Loans (Access to Higher Education) Act (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill, 2024, into law, ushering in new opportunities for student financial assistance.
