Beware of fake recruitment portals, NSCDC, Immigration warn Nigerians

The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board has warned Nigerians applying for jobs in the four federal paramilitary agencies to beware of fake recruitment portals and fraudulent shortlisting messages.

In a statement signed by the board’s secretary, Maj Gen AM Jibril (Rtd), the CDCFIB said the only approved portal for the ongoing recruitment is https://recruitment.cdcfib.gov.ng. “Applicants are strongly advised to disregard any other portal,” he said, warning that scammers are creating fake sites to mislead and defraud unsuspecting job seekers.

The board stressed that the recruitment process will be completely transparent and free. “No applicant is required to pay any fee at any stage of the process,” Jibril said. He confirmed that the application period is still open until Monday, August 11, 2025, and that shortlisting has not yet started.

The warning follows the circulation of fake messages using CDCFIB’s name and logo, claiming applicants had been shortlisted and directing them to pay N1,250 for “consultancy clearance” before receiving an employment posting. The fraudulent messages promise a posting letter within two weeks of payment and direct victims to send money to a so-called Federal Government Human Resource Consultant.

“You have been shortlisted as a suitable candidate after a review of your CV/application… Your consultancy clearance would determine your posting letter for employment at any of the four (4) agencies,” the scam message reads.

The CDCFIB said it has not authorised any such messages and urged applicants to ignore any communication asking for payment. “Please note that the recruitment process is absolutely FREE at all stage,” the statement added.

The current recruitment covers the Nigeria Correctional Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, Federal Fire Service, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps. Positions are available in three main cadres — General Duty (Superintendent), Inspectorate, and Assistant — with specific age, physical fitness, and qualification requirements.

The exercise began on July 14, 2025, after being delayed from its original June 26 start date. The portal was briefly closed due to technical issues but reopened on July 21, with the deadline later extended to August 11, 2025.
