Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Eniola Ajao, hasrefuted claims that she played a role in the arrest of popular cross-dresser, Bobrisky, following her movie premiere last year.
Speaking in a video interview on Oyinmomo TV, Ajao clarified that Bobrisky’s arrest stemmed from alleged financial misconduct and had nothing to do with any personal dispute between them.
Ajao explained that the decision to award Bobrisky the “Best Dressed Female” prize at her film premiere was purely a promotional strategy, which unfortunately triggered backlash from some colleagues in the industry.
She said, “I gave the best-dressed female award to Bobrisky to promote my movie, but I didn’t know that my colleagues would react negatively to it. I was very sad to see that my colleagues in the movie industry were fighting over the decision, and I later had to call them and explain what my intention was.”
The filmmaker stressed that her relationship with Bobrisky remains cordial and that she has shown consistent support for him during his legal troubles. Ajao added that, contrary to public speculation, she was not involved in his arrest and has continued to visit him, even as others distanced themselves.
“I don’t have any issue with Bobrisky; he knew why he was arrested, and no matter how I try to explain to people on social media, they won’t believe me. I have a very good relationship with Bobrisky, and he knows that I have always been a good friend to him. I wasn’t behind Bobrisky’s arrest; he was arrested because of money, and I always visit him. Many of his friends neglected him when he was arrested, but I stood by him,” she stated.
It should be recalled that in 2024, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arrested Bobrisky over allegations of currency mutilation and abuse of the Naira.
