The Benue State Police has apprehended a total of 25 suspects for various offenses within the state, including a suspected spiritualist, his pregnant wife, and five individuals who traveled from Delta State.

The state police spokesperson, SP Catherine Anene, released a statement on Wednesday, disclosing that among those arrested, 15 were suspected arm manufacturers.

Additionally, two individuals were apprehended in Mbakiya village, Ugondo District, Makurdi, the capital city, following a robbery incident involving one Misaq Eke.

Anene’s statement outlined the circumstances of the arrests, stating, “On 21/11/2023, at about 1900hrs, while a police team was on routine patrol along Barracks road, Makurdi, information was received that one Godspower Oghenerumu, a suspected ritualist (yahoo yahoo), his pregnant wife, and five others had arrived Makurdi from Delta State and were carrying out ritual activities.”

The police team swiftly responded to the scene, arresting the spiritual leader, his wife, and five others.

Subsequent investigations revealed that the followers of the ritualist had been involved in ritual activities in Delta State, which did not yield the promised financial gains.

The spiritual leader, Godspower, allegedly directed them to move to Benue for further instructions on manufacturing money.

Anene added, “On 15/11/2023 at about 1620hrs, the team busted the hideout of arm dealers along Vandeikya-Adikpo Road and arrested one Fater Terkula Sunday and Jem Demesugh.”

The search at the hideout led to the recovery of six locally fabricated Beretta pistols and a motorcycle.

The exhibits retrieved from the suspects included a locally made Beretta pistol, two gas cylinders, one welding cylinder, two welding nozzles, and a Sienna bus.
