The Benue State House of Assembly has suspended four of its members for six months over an alleged attempt to impeach the Speaker, Aondona Dajoh.
The suspended lawmakers are Alfred Berger, representing Makurdi North; Terna Shimawua of Kian State Constituency; Cyril Ekong of Obi State Constituency; and James Umoru, representing Apa State Constituency.
Their suspension was announced during plenary following a motion of urgent public importance moved by the Majority Leader, Saater Tiseer, who accused the lawmakers of trying to destabilize the House with what he described as an unnecessary crisis.
In response to the motion, Speaker Dajoh ordered the Sergeant-at-Arms to escort the affected members out of the chamber.
Additionally, the Speaker appointed Audu Elias as the new spokesperson of the House, replacing Alfred Berger, who previously held the position before his suspension.
