The Super Eagles of Nigeria faced a surpriseing defeat on Monday, losing 2-1 to Benin Republic in the fourth round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.
Nigeria took the lead in the 29th minute when Raphael Onyedika scored with a precise shot to the right corner of the goal. However, Benin Republic quickly responded with a goal from Jodel Dossou, who capitalized on a defensive mistake by the Super Eagles to level the score.
Just before halftime, Benin’s Steve Mounie scored with a right-footed shot from a corner, putting Benin ahead 2-1. This result puts Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup in jeopardy.
