Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has warned social media users that there would be repercussions if their tweets misrepresent Kaduna State.

El-Rufai gave this stern warning at the public presentation of a book in Abuja.

Mr. Bashir Ahmad, the New Media aide of President Muhammadu Buhari, who was present at the event tweeted,

“If you want to tweet anything about Kaduna be very careful because I am watching and we have a very very strong law to get you. – Mal. Nasiru @elRufai at the @Omojuwa’s #DigitalWealthBook Abuja Launch.”

His recent threat comes days after the governor via his official Twitter handle warned Kaduna residents of the dangers of slandering his image or spreading fake pictures, videos or words that may disturb the state’s peaceful coexistence.

El-Rufai said, “Calling a person (including @elrufai) a liar in itself is not a crime in Kaduna State.

“Just post some fake pictures, videos or words that amount to injurious falsehood leading to disruption of our state’s peaceful coexistence and you will have our undivided attention. Go on, try!”
