The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Shuibu Ibrahim, has warned that the Corps would not pay a ransom on any kidnapped corps member.

He consequently advised corps members to be security conscious and be mindful of their movements.

He also advised them to cultivate the habit of retiring to their beds by 6 p.m.

General Ibrahim made the declaration on Sunday when he made unannounced visits to corps members deployed to Katsina and Borno states who are currently undergoing their orientation programmes in Katsina.

The NYSC Director General’s Sunday visit was the second he would make to Katsina within a week. He was earlier in the town last Tuesday following the death of three corps members serving in the state in a ghastly road accident.

The Spokesman for the NYSC in Katsina, Alex Oboameta quoted the DG to have said,

“The NYSC will never pay ransom if any corps member is kidnapped. Corps Members are therefore advised to secure themselves as much as possible to avoid being kidnapped.”

Oboameta, in a statement on the NYSC D.G’s visits, added that General Ibrahim addressed the corps members in Katsina Camp where he urged them to be focused and law-abiding.

He also urged them not to endanger their security anywhere they find themselves.

General Ibrahim told the Corps members not to compromise their rights for any favour. He warned them to always obtain permission before travelling if they must travel.

The NYSC DG revealed that the highest record of deaths amongst corps members was as a result of road traffic accident and enjoined them to always obtain written permission before travelling out of the state.

On security, the DG told the Corps Members to secure themselves first before someone else can secure them.

He told them to always tell somebody or their friends whenever they want to go anywhere if they must move alone. He urged them to read the security tips given to them and ensure they practice what is written in them.

On the arrested Fake Corps Members, General Ibrahim reiterated that anyone caught should be handed over to the Police for prosecution, assuring that he would make sure those already in police net are jailed to serve as a deterrent to others who are still nursing similar ambition.
