Sayria Spa, the luxury wellness establishment owned by former Big Brother Naija star Busayo Abirim (KokobyKhloe), has issued its first official statement regarding sexual assault allegations made by a client against one of its male masseurs.
The Lagos-based spa broke its silence on Monday following widespread social media controversy over an incident that allegedly occurred on May 21, 2025, involving Miss Angelica Kelechi, who had reportedly booked a surprise spa experience for her sister.
In a comprehensive statement, Sayria Spa provided its version of events, revealing that the appointment had been rescheduled earlier that day at the client’s request and that both guests were “warmly welcomed and celebrated the occasion with refreshments before their treatments.”
The spa detailed its standard operating procedures, stating: “As per our standard protocol, both clients were given privacy to change. The client in question was asked and confirmed that she was comfortable receiving a massage from a male therapist.”
According to the establishment’s account, the massage session involved four people in the same room. “During the session, there were a total of four people in the room — the client and her sister were side by side, each receiving their treatment simultaneously. The massage was conducted professionally, with the therapist checking in regularly to ensure the client’s comfort throughout the session,” the statement read.
The spa also noted that following the treatment, both clients appeared satisfied with the service, even going as far as tipping the staff ₦25,000 in total and remaining at the premises for an extended period before departing.
However, the situation took a dramatic turn later that evening. “Later that evening, Miss Kelechi returned with individuals and police officers, leading to the male therapist being taken in for questioning over allegations of misconduct,” the spa revealed.
In a surprising twist, Sayria Spa disclosed that the complainant subsequently withdrew her allegations. “The following day, the client voluntarily withdrew her complaint and submitted a formal letter to that effect,” the statement indicated.
Despite the withdrawal of the complaint, the spa management demonstrated commitment to transparency by launching an internal investigation. The accused therapist was immediately placed on suspension while management also requested an independent law enforcement probe.
The case has since been reopened, with the spa confirming that “the therapist is currently in police custody” and that “the Managing Director is said to be personally overseeing the matter.”
Sayria Spa used the statement to reinforce its commitment to client safety and professional standards. “We want to reiterate that Sayria Spa has zero tolerance for any form of misconduct,” the management emphasized. “We remain fully committed to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, client care, and safety.”
The establishment also revealed efforts to reach out to the complainant directly. “We have reached out to the client to express our concern and reassure her that we are treating this matter with the utmost seriousness it deserves.”
The spa concluded its statement by appealing for understanding from the public while the investigation continues. “We sincerely appreciate the understanding and continued support of our clients and community as we work to uphold a safe, respectful, and trustworthy environment for everyone.”
The allegations had initially gained widespread attention on social media after the complainant shared her experience online, with popular influencer Diana Eneje amplifying the story and expressing disappointment with the spa’s initial response.
