Nigerian actress, Lizzy Jay, has joined the list of celebrities who have waded in on the relationship between Big Brother Naija housemates – Tega and Boma.
The pair got tongues wagging when a video surfaced online showing Tega, who is a married woman, kissing Boma.
Moreso, another video of the ongoing reality television show surfaced and showed the duo under a duvet. While there was nothing much to see, many people believed the housemates engaged in some sort of sexual activity.
Taking to her Instagram story, the comedienne who is fondly referred to as Omo Ibadan, quizzed why Tega is at the receiving end of the backlash.
In a lengthy piece, the entertainer wrote, “ I’ve read a lot of outrage from people over a married woman (BBN Tega) having something with a man… and most of these write-ups are targeting the woman, yabbing and berating her…
“In all of these write-ups, I haven’t seen one that berates the man, it’s very annoying. Why do we blame women every time for everything? Why must the woman be the one to take the fall for every sin? If the guy was a married man, you will still come out and blame the woman for sleeping with him knowing he’s married. When a married man cheats with another woman, we call out and shame the woman instead. Now, a married woman cheats with another man and we are still calling out the woman?
“Why is the guy not getting the same attention? And please don’t tell me it is because the lady is married because in the last season the same thing happened between two single housemates and you all slut-shamed the lady.”
Lizzy Jay stated that she had observed that most Nigerians have a bandwagon mentality.
“One even said men shouldn’t allow their wives to go on BBN show. It is okay for a married man to go on the show but not okay for a married woman to go on the same show. How did you come up with this double standard? How? The hypocrisy on this street is too much abeg!
“One thing I have come to realise is the fact that most people do not have a mind of their own. It is either what their religion says or what their society says,” she wrote.
