Bayern Munich secured a dramatic 2-1 win over 15-time UEFA Champions League winners Real Madrid at the Bernabeu in the first leg of their quarter-final tie, putting the German side in firm control ahead of the return fixture.

Bayern started on the front foot and stunned the home crowd five minutes before half-time. Serge Gnabry played a perfect through pass to Luis Diaz, who finished calmly to give the visitors the lead.

The German side doubled their advantage just 30 seconds into the second half. Michael Olise drove forward and laid the ball off for Harry Kane, who swept home from the edge of the area.

Real Madrid pulled one back with 15 minutes remaining. Trent Alexander-Arnold delivered a low cross to the far post, where Kylian Mbappe finished despite Manuel Neuer’s best efforts.

The hosts pushed for an equaliser but could not find a way past Bayern’s defence. The result marks only the second defeat for Real Madrid in their last nine meetings with Bayern.

Bayern’s two goals either side of half-time place them in the driving seat ahead of the second leg, with the German side now early favourites to advance to the semi-finals for the 22nd time in club history.
