Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has dismissed claims that he is in a relationship with former Big Brother Naija star, Nengi Rebecca Hampson, or that he fathered her child.

Rumors had circulated online suggesting that Nengi welcomed a child with Governor Diri, who is already married to four wives.

The speculation gained attention after controversial blogger Gistlover posted a picture of Nengi with the caption hinting at her being the governor’s “fifth wife.”

Reacting to the claims, the governor’s spokesperson, Dr. Kola Oredipe, described the rumors as “baseless fabrications.”

“Nengi Rebecca Hampson has no personal relationship with Governor Diri,” Oredipe stated. “Regrettably, purveyors of fake news are not happy with the governor’s growing political profile.”

He criticized the spread of such false stories, saying, “While we were inaugurating a brand new road in Yenagoa, social media e-rats were busy spreading lies about the governor. This is a distraction, and it highlights the need to regulate social media platforms.”

Nengi also addressed the rumors, confirming her pregnancy but firmly denying any connection to the Bayelsa governor.

“As much as I believe social media lies aren’t worth my time, I’ve come to accept that we live in a world where people are quick to spread lies without limits,” she wrote. “Let me be clear, I’m not pregnant for any governor.”

She added, “I’ve chosen to speak because this isn’t just an attack on me; it involves people I hold in the highest regard. I won’t allow a beautiful, personal part of my life to be turned into something ugly.”

Nengi urged the public to respect her privacy as she enjoys her pregnancy in peace.

“While I continue to mind my own business and enjoy my pregnancy in PEACE, I wish y’all love and a happy Valentine’s weekend,” she wrote.

Many of her fans have since sent her well-wishes, hoping for a safe delivery as she prepares to welcome her first child with her partner.
