Police in Bauchi State have arrested a 20-year-old university student, Sadiq Abubakar, for allegedly stealing a tipper truck worth N30 million from his father’s company.

Sadiq, a 200-level student of Capital City University, Kano, was picked up alongside two other suspects, after the truck was traced to Kano.

In a statement on Friday, the state police spokesperson, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, said the truck, marked MGU-95-ZF, was taken from Arabab Investment Limited, a company owned by Sadiq’s father, Alhaji Rabiu Ahmad.

“The complainant reported that on July 25, 2025, unknown persons tied up his watchman, 65-year-old Luka Galadima Mahaukata, at their warehouse along Gudum Road in Bauchi and stole a tipper truck,” Wakil said.

The injured watchman was rushed to the hospital while police launched an investigation.

Four days later, on July 29, officers led by CSP Hassan A. Musa found the missing truck at Tabarakallah area of Kano State. They arrested the driver, 38-year-old Sabo Alhassan.

Further questioning led them to Abubakar Shehu, a 34-year-old car dealer from Kumbotso in Kano, who claimed he bought the truck from Sadiq.

Wakil said the student later confessed to planning the theft and misleading the buyer by pretending the truck was left to him as an inheritance from his late father.

He added, “Sadiq is the biological son of the complainant and resides in the Kofar Dumi area of Bauchi metropolis.”

The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has ordered that all suspects be profiled and charged to court after investigations are completed.
