Bauchi State Government has ordered all schools in the state to close immediately following growing security threats and recent attacks on learning centres in different parts of the country.

The directive covers every primary, secondary and tertiary institution, including federal schools and private schools.

The announcement was issued on Sunday night in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Bauchi State Ministry of Education, Jalaludeen Usman. The notice was titled “Temporary Closure of All Schools in Bauchi State Due to Security Concerns.”

In the statement, the government said the move became necessary after long discussions with security agencies and a careful review of current threats.

The statement said, “The Bauchi State Government wishes to notify the general public that all primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions including Federal Government-owned schools and private schools are hereby closed with immediate effect.”

It added that the decision was not easy but was taken to protect learners, teachers, and school communities. According to the government, “This decision, though difficult, was taken by the Government of Bauchi State after extensive consultations and in response to overwhelming security concerns affecting the safety of students, teachers, and school communities across the state.”

The government also noted the discomfort the closure may bring, but stressed that safety must come first. It said, “The government is fully aware of the inconvenience this may cause. However, the protection of our children remains our highest moral responsibility. Every student in Bauchi State deserves to learn in an environment that is safe, stable, and free of fear.”

Parents, guardians, and school owners were urged to stay calm. The state government said security agencies are working to stabilise the situation and allow schools to reopen once it is safe.

The statement added, “If you see something, say something. Timely information from the public is crucial in safeguarding our communities. The Bauchi State Government will continue to provide updates as the situation evolves.”
