Bauchi pregnant woman in custody for beating stepdaughter to death

An 18-year-old pregnant woman has been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command for allegedly killing her five-year-old stepdaughter by beating her mercilessly for defecating on her body.

The State Commissioner of Police, Auwal Muhammad, revealed this to journalists at the command’s headquarters on Tuesday. 

He said that the suspect, Khadija Adamu, who lives in Kandahar, a suburb of Bauchi metropolis, inflicted severe injuries on the minor, Hafsat Garba.

On 28th September 2023 at about 9.25 pm, one Abdulaziz Adamu, male (38), of Kandahar area Bauchi, reported at A’ Divisional Police Headquarters that on the same date at about 4 pm, one Khadija Adamu, female (18) of the same address beat up her stepdaughter named Hafsat Garba female (5), as a result, she sustained serious injuries on her body.

“Upon receipt of the report, a team of detectives led by DPO swung into action, rushed to the scene, and moved the victim to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, for medical attention, where she was certified dead by the medical doctor,” he said

Auwal also mentioned that, during the interrogation, the suspect readily confessed to the alleged offense against her with minimal dispute. Speaking further, he noted that the investigation is ongoing, and upon its completion, the suspect will be formally charged in court for the confirmed offense.
