A 35-year-old man, Tijjani Ahmadu Diye, was apprehended by the Bauchi State Police Command for disguising himself as a woman and assaulting his wife. His motive was to extract money to restock his provision shop.

According to Bauchi State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Wakili, the arrest occurred on December 2, 2023.

Diye was charged with offenses including assault, causing grievous harm, and attempting to commit culpable homicide.

Wakili explained, “Detectives attached to the ‘A’ Divisional Police Headquarters, Bauchi, arrested the said Tijjani Ahmadu Diye after he disguised as a woman and raised an alarm in his house, claiming that armed robbers had invaded the compound.”

The victim, Diye’s wife, was immediately evacuated to the Specialist Hospital in Bauchi, where she received necessary medical attention.

During the preliminary investigation, Diye admitted to the charges without much resistance. In his confession, he revealed the bizarre details of the incident, stating, “I raised a false alarm, claiming that armed robbers had entered our house. I quickly entered the bedroom, met my wife, and asked her to cover her head with a scarf. I then covered my face with a scarf, armed myself with a pestle, returned to the bedroom, and started hitting her.”

Diye further confessed to his intention to kill his wife to sell their television set, raising funds to refurnish his struggling provision shop.

The Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa Mohammed, has directed the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough investigation. Once completed, Diye will face prosecution accordingly.
