Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, on Friday led several top figures of the Peoples Democratic Party to the Federal High Court in Abuja ahead of a crucial judgment concerning the party’s proposed national convention.
The legal action was initiated by three party officials — Austin Nwachukwu, Chairman of Imo PDP; Amah Nnanna, Chairman of Abia PDP; and Turnah George, Secretary of the South-South PDP.
The trio is seeking to halt the convention, where new national officers are expected to be elected, citing alleged violations of the party’s constitution.
Earlier in August, the PDP Governors’ Forum had warned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and others against actions that could disrupt the convention, which is slated to take place in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15, 2025.
The development comes just days after the party announced the postponement of its screening exercise for aspirants vying for positions at the convention, attributing the decision to “unforeseen” issues.
“The National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC) of our great Party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has put on hold the screening of aspirants for the 2025 Elective National Convention, earlier scheduled for Tuesday, October 28, 2025, due to unforeseen circumstances,” read a statement signed by Umaru Fintiri, Governor of Adamawa State and Chairman of the Convention Committee.
“A new date will be communicated once fixed. The NCOC regrets any inconvenience caused by the postponement,” the statement added.
