Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal has been named the 2024 Golden Boy, becoming the youngest-ever winner of the prestigious award for the best under-21 male footballer in the world.
On the same day, Barça Femení star Vicky López won the Golden Girl award, given to the best under-21 female footballer globally.
Yamal, 17, follows in the footsteps of his Barcelona teammates Pedri and Gavi, who won the award in 2021 and 2022.
This is the latest honor for the young talent, who also won the Kopa Trophy at the 2024 Ballon d’Or ceremony, becoming its youngest-ever recipient.
He has had a remarkable year, shining for both Barcelona and the Spanish national team. He helped Spain win the European Championship last summer, where he was named Young Player of the Tournament, included in the Team of the Tournament, and won Goal of the Tournament for his semifinal strike against France.
This season, Yamal has scored six goals and provided eight assists in 16 appearances across all competitions.
Despite missing recent games due to an ankle injury, Barça coach Hansi Flick confirmed Yamal might return for their LaLiga match against Las Palmas on Saturday.
