It started with a tweet from Sterling Bank, not-so-subtly shading 4 others: Union Bank, First Bank, GT Bank, UBA and Access Bank.
It was a very simple tweet, the bank writing: “Shoot for the moon, become a star – it’s the least you deserve. Welcome to #SterlingBank ?”
The image attached to the tweet, however, had all the shade.
And trust Nigerians, they immediately keyed into the shade and #BankWars has become a trend.
Other banks did not take the shade lying down with Union Bank, Access bank going for the jugular.
We will travel on an imaginary rocket too, if we were a one-customer Microfinance Bank; but with ten million customers and counting, we rather bring the galaxy to you! #YouAreWorthIt #TakeTomorrow #KnowYourElders pic.twitter.com/pBGuW8JaLo

Next time somebody tells you 'you can't kill two birds with one stone', tell them you were alive when Sterling Bank killed multiple banks with one tweet #BankWars

While we await GTBank to finish clearing the mammoth crowd in their banking halls across town before responding to the blistering onslaught on their jailer banking model, can we at least take this worship song? ? I’m talking to you Jailer…?? #BankWars pic.twitter.com/siNKhkntRB

Whoever designed the Sterling Bank advert content is one creative thinker & a smart marketing strategist. Any company should want him/her on board #bankwars

I won't be surprised if GTBank choose not to reply that shade.
In their defence, never wrestle with a pig – you get dirty, and besides, the pig likes it. #bankwars

Nobody should tell the Facebook people what's going on between Sterling Bank and the Other Banks. They will be used as scapegoats on Monday when their ATM cards get seized inside opposition's ATM Machines ?? #BankWars pic.twitter.com/j7erB6egHC

The banks will debit everyone that uses the hashtag #BankWars . I know banks that have already sent debit alerts sef. Some banks will debit you for observing and not defending them.
