Bandits release Zamfara monarch's son, collect motorbike

Bandits have released the son of the District Head of Gayari town in Zamfara state, Yasir Mohammed after collecting motorcycle as ransom.

It could be recalled that, the district head of Gayari, Alhaji Hassan Mohammed was kidnapped by bandits along with his son Yasir.

They released the monarch and held his son, demanding for a brand new motorbike as ransom.

The family members had to raise the sum of N400.000 to buy the motorcycle nicknamed “Boko Haram” and gave the bandits before they released Yasir yesterday.

Narrating the ordeal to our reporter, a family member, Alhaji Faruku Gayari said,

“When we realized that, the bandits were not ready to release Yasir without the motorcycle, we have to tax ourselves to buy it and took it to them”.

Faruku stated that, Yasir was released in the night last Sunday but could not come back home until around 12 o’clock in the afternoon the following day due to a long distance.

“He trekked from the forest where he was in captivity to the town for almost 13 hours because the bandits refused to give him a lift to the main road”.

According to Faruku, when the bandits released him, they told him to find his way home because they would not take him back.

“He was moving helplessly in the forest, trying to locate the main road until when he arrived at one village and was guided by the villagers on the direction to follow”.

Faruku said, Yasir was in good health, despite all the pressure he encountered and thanked all those who have contributed towards his release.
