Bandits demand N4 Million ransom for kidnap NYSC members
Bandits who kidnapped eight prospective corps members on their way to the National Youth Service Corps orientation camp in Zamfara State have demanded ransom to free the captives. The incident occurred last Friday when the victims traveled in a bus belonging to the Akwa Ibom Transport Company from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to Sokoto State.
One of the kidnappers contacted the father of one of the victims, Glory Thomas, and demanded a ransom of N4 million for her release. The victim’s father Emmanuel Etteh said he spoke with his daughter briefly and confirmed that she was still alive.
“They called me with their line, then they asked me to pay N4million. I asked to speak with my daughter to ensure she’s safe and sound. Then I asked how they wanted us to pay the money which they said we should contact the AKTC.” he said
Etteh said he had not heard from the kidnappers or his daughter since then. He expressed his worry and appealed to the authorities to intervene and rescue his daughter and the other victims.
However, a source in the military said a rescue operation was underway to locate and free the victims from their captors
